The "Riviera del Brenta"

The Riviera del Brenta is the name given to the area that developed along the banks of the river that flows from Padova to Venice, the Brenta. Between the sixteenth and the eighteenth century the Riviera was the exclusive place were rich Venetian aristocrats, passed the summer. For its closeness to Venice it became a sort of mainland extension to the city itself. To pass their holidays, aristocratic built splendid villas. Most of them designed by Palladio, and many other famous architects, and frescoed by prominent artists.
The most prominent are Villa Foscari at Malcontenta, designed by Palladio, Villa Morosini at Mirano, in Baroque style, and Villa Pisani at Stra’, built in the 1800s when architectures used tricks of prospective to an illusion of space. Inside them walls are frescoed, the most prominent representation propose tales from the mythology or the glories of noble families. Except from painting of inestimable values, inside them you can find other treasures such us marble statuary by Bonazza, altars by Sansovino and refined furniture.
We suggest you to visit Mirano for the large number of building the town has. Most of them are remains of the glorious development the place had after falling under the control the Venetian Republic.
