The "Regatta's Season" in Venice

It is unquestionable the closed relation that tie Venice to the Sea. Consequently it is obvious that this magnetic city has always had expert oarsmen. We can find this peculiar aspect in the love Venetian people have for Regattas. For them this is not a mere sport but also a part of their culture and social life. In the lagoon every year from April to September, apart from the most famous Regatta Storica, take place more that 120 regattas.
Most of them are spontaneous but the most significant, almost 11, are organized by the Municipality in collaboration with the Rowers’ Associations and take place during traditional festivities and festival.

Main Regattas in Venice

The Regatta della Sensa, that take place in May and celebrates the incontestable tie between Venice and the Sea. the Regatta di Mestre beginnings in front of the lighthouse, from Canale dei Marani ending at Punta San Giuliano, takes place in May. The Regatta di Sant’Erasmo is the only one reserved for women. The competition takes place in the water around Fusina in June. The Regatta di Santi Giovanni e Paolo is organized for young people under 25 years. The race begins in Murano to finish at the Ponte dei Mendicanti passing along the Fondamenta Nuove and takes place in June. To the Regatta di Murano can participate everyone, man, women, young people. The regatta starts in the water around the island of Murano and continues to the interior canals where it finishes.
