Art between East and West in Venice

From 7th June to 22nd November 2009, the city of Venice has the pleasure of hosting the Divano Orientale-Occidentale, an exhibition that will display the most original works of promising young artists from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. The event will be held at the Scuola Nuova Maria della Misericordia, representing an important occasion for discussing the intercultural links between the two worlds and for trying out, on one hand, their expressive profoundness and, on the other, revealing the consistency of their connections.

It will be open every day from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. Entrance is free. If you book a hotel in Venice you will be able to visit an exhibition of great importance, which testifies yet again the complexity of the relationships kept by the city with very different dimensions, over the course of its history. The event represents an opportunity for highlighting not only the differences but also the consolidated meeting points between such distant cultural horizons.

Exploring Art in Venice

Take a trip to Venice and lose yourself in its exciting atmosphere, linked to the area's history and traditions. Make the most of the numerous opportunities to absorb art and culture. From Friday, 5th June to Sunday, 4th October 2009, the Correr Museum will play host to 'Astrazioni', an event seeking to re-examine the relationship between the artistic avant-garde of the early 19th century, and its various cultural expressions, pausing to consider the real meaning behind these movements.

The exhibition takes place within the framework of a wider programme, aimed at praising the artistic creativity of Futurism, and celebrating its centenary. This is a unique opportunity to analyse the images and works of major Italian and European artists, comparing style, form, meaning and expressive leanings. Taking centre-stage is the search for the essential, irony, provocative images and the move away from traditional rules.

The Arab thoroughbreds on stage in Lido

On next 27 and 28 June, Venice Lido will be the scene of an exciting event: Arabian Dream, a new opportunity of contact between East and West in a city that for centuries was the bridge between two different worlds. Symbol of the event is the Arabian horse, with an international competition focused on the oldest horse race in the world, synonymous with grace and beauty but also with speed and agility.

The event represents the ideal platform for meeting and dialogue, not only between breeders and entrepreneurs but, in a broader sense, also between Western culture and Arab, under different points of view as economic, artistic and social aspects, through discussion forums, exhibitions and gala evenings.

Mysterious Faces of Venice

Venice, like all large cities with a long history behind it, offers its visitors many faces. In an attempt to reveal some of the lesser-known facets of the lagoon city, the local Agency for Tourist Promotion (APT) organizes tours and alternative itineraries in the historical centre of Venice, discovering backgrounds, monuments, traditions and feelings that are not covered in the usual tourist trail.

Every week, according to predetermined schedules, you can book an excursion to the discovery of San Marco, Rialto, Canal Grande, Venice Gardens and the more striking chance: discover the mysterious and darkest side of Venice with an itinerary taking off at twilight, dedicated to the most fascinating legends of the Venetian tradition.
