The Historical Center
If you are in Venice, do not try to programme too much sightseeing because there is not any work of art that can be compared as the simple experience of being in Venice. Do not forget to take at least one boat trip: there is a lot of Venice that can only be seen from the boat. If you have more time, the best way to visit the city it is on foot, crossing its 400 bridges and turning down its narrow calli to find yourself in a beautiful campo, facing a church or walking along a row of shops. Stroll along its fondamenta, campi e campielli with no destination, this is the best way to enjoy this marvellous city.
San Marco square, Calli and Campielli
Except for Piazza San Marco, the heart of Venice, there are many other campi and not piazze, smaller but charming as Campo Santa Margherita or Campo San Luca where Venetians are used to meeting. In Campo Santa Margherita there is the Scuola dei Carmini that, like the Scuola di San Rocco, is one of the few schools that can be visited. Campo dei Frari is another vital place of the city. It is famous because it takes its name from the Church that was built there starting from 1340 and completed more than one hundred years afterwards. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari is just one amongst the more than 100 churches in Venice, all of them worth visiting. And when you have a rest for a coffee or a glass of wine, you can choose amongst the numerous bar Venice has. There is a bar for every possible mood and taste. The most famous are Floriani and Quadri that are the most glamorous and expensive.
