When you are in Venice you can visit beautiful churches, various museums, magnificent palaces representative of most of the major artist movements, from the Byzantine to the Romanticism. But this incredible city has also several events that, for its originality and attractiveness, make it unforgettable. From the Carnival, famous all other the world, to “festa della Sensa”, more characteristic for its ancient origin, and many other appointments that make this city unique.
The Carnival is the most famous event. Its origins are religious. In fact it is celebrate just till one day before the beginning of the Lent. In any “campo” you go you find different performances, from concert to painting shows, organized by the municipality. But if the Carnival attracts many tourists, the “Redentore” can be considered the most Venetian celebration. It takes place the third Sunday of July, when masses are celebrated and there is a religious procession presided over by the Patriarch.
The feast ends with a magnificent show of fire works that lasts for almost one hour late in the night. Another representative Venetian event is the gay regatta Storica that involves many people. Its origins are dated back to 1489 when Caterina Cornaro, Cyprus King’s wife, renounced to the throne for Venice. Another important happening arranged by the Municipality is the Venice Marathon, a sporting occasion for everyone studied and realized in the charming ancient city centre.
